Eid Qurbani

FAQS:

Why we sacrifice an animal on Eid ul Hajj/Adha ?

The practice of sacrificing an animal goes back to the practice of Prophet Ibrahim (a.s) sacrificing his son.

It symbolises the readiness of giving up anything that holds us back from progressing towards God. As we allocate a sacrifice we should ponder on the obstacles that cause spiritual stagnation e.g. love of this world, greed, jealousy etc

Is it a must for everyone?

It is wajib for those in hajj to carry it out and is very highly emphasised tradition (Sunna Mu’akada) to carry it out for those not in hajj.

What are it’s benefits/rewards?

قال رسول الله (ص): إنما جعل الله هذا الأضحى لتشبع مساكينكم من اللحم فأطعموهم
علل الشرائع – الشيخ الصدوق – ج 2 ص 437

Narrated the Prophet(s.a.w) : “Allah made this sacrifice of the Day of Adha so that you may satiate your poor people with meat, so feed them.”

Imam Ali (a.s): If Man knew what was (the benefit) in the Eid adha sacrifice they would have taken a loan and would have performed the Eid-ul-adha sacrifice, for definitely the person (who gets it carried out) is forgiven at the time it is carried out.

Can it be done on behalf of others?

According to Syed Sistani : It is allowed to perform the Eid-ul-Adha sacrifice on behalf of the living and the dead, as it is allowed to perform it on behalf of young children The Prophet (s.a.w) used to perform this sacrifice on behalf of his women and on behalf of those who hadn’t carried it out from his family, and on behalf of those who hadn’t carried it out from his Umma (community), just as the Imam Ali (a.s) used to perform it every year on behalf of the Prophet (s.a.w)

When is it carried out?

It is done on the day of Eid ul Hajj(Adha) and the 2 days following it. However due to the large number of requests, we will stop taking orders from the 17th of August 2018. Any request after that will be carried out a normal Qurbani.

How your Qurbani is distributed  ?

Having got a steady and reliable framework in place, we ensure that the meat from the sacrifices reach the needy, widows and orphans in East Africa.
